I totally love the idea of this tribe, but I hope you don't mind too much my popping in to say that the current name freaks me out.

Partly because I live in a wood frame house and have had a couple of close calls with wildfires

I almost didn't join here, because I didn't want to be flagged on google searches as a potential arsonist.

Of course, I could start another parallel tribe with a different name, but it seems more logical to first ask:

Is the moderator open to considering other names, and does anyone else feel the same way, or have any suggestions, ?

I have a one bedroom, full bathroom converted mobile home located in a very quite and private part of Topanga. It's in an ancient and very beautiful oak and bay laurel grove. So I'm looking for someone to stay here while I'm gone. Rent will be $2025 for the entire time and will include all utilities and very high speed internet connection (fiber optic) and all the local and national calls you want to make. It's fully furnished. All you will need is your clothing, sheets and blankets, and food. There's a couple tropical fish to feed and a few plants to water and a couple squirrels that come by for peanuts every day to take care of. I'll leave you with enough food to do so.

PM me if you're interested. Could negotiate price a bit in exchange for some housework and gardening.

I've got many skills and am willing to exchange them in return for a place to live- what does Topanga need from me?

Hi, I am looking forward to bringing my Cafe du Monde Beignets, award winning Zen Beignets (can't describe them, you gotta eat one!) and Jambalaya to Topanga Daze Memorial Day Weekend. This will be the first time I vend food @ Topanga. I've vended over 100 events from HORDE tour to Gilroy Garlic to Tibet Freedom Day in GG Park in SF.

I'm requesting Love and Support from you out there in beautiful Topanga Canyon. Or close by.

It would make me feel great to rent a couple of rooms for my crew coming down from Northern Calif.

It would be beyond awesome & magical to find a nice flat spot not too far from the festival where I can park my 22' RV for several nights. I am thoroughly self-contained. I'm going to be too exhausted to drive out each night after fifteen hours of work each day (minimum).

I need to hire some local crew. Food Prep, sales and ONE SPECIAL ANGEL WHO CAN WORK DOUGH! (plenty of it & fast!) Are you a foodie or wannabe foodie fast with a paring knife or into food sales & can count backwards from twenty accurately while smiling at the person in front of you who can't wait to sink her teeth into a Zen Beignet while appreciating the hunger of a twenty minute food line behind that customer? And, I need a runner with a pick up who knows quickest ways to CostCo & places like that if we need quick refills.

Desire to make some good cash for that special burn proof costume you've been designing for the past couple years or hours? Compensation is quite good. More for baker & fryers.

Beignets fry atop very hot oil, donuts without holes, and served hot with powdered sugar (and coffee with chicory). A Zen Beignet, is one with everything: custard, chocolate, berries, whipped cream, then the powdered sugar.

Jambalaya is, well, Jambalaya.

Work is intense, and we have fun. We feed thousands very delicious food made from the finest ingredients. My custard contains just enough sugar, for example, to get the eggs off when blended. Flavoring comes from Cointreau and Vanilla Beans. Free ranged chicken is used in Jambalaya and veggies and fruit are organic when I can get it that way.

Feeding folks good food is Instant Gratification. Want to be part of this team?

Namaste for your time & thoughts. Cheers & Peace, Phoenix

ANON SALON’s SEA OF DREAMS “CIRK-O-SIX”

New Years Eve, Downtown LA
This New Year's Eve, San Francisco and LA based event promoters, ANON SALON are expanding on the long running success of their legendary SEA OF DREAMS New Year's Eve spectacle by raising the bar with this year’s CIRK-O-SIX, to be held at the historic Los Angeles Theater. This year’s burlesque theme combines the party with ongoing theater performances in the famed downtown theatre.

The Los Angeles Theatre was once considered one of the four or five finest theatres in the world and the event will raise the flag of the new Renaissance of downtown Los Angeles and call upon the Golden Era of LA’s Downtown Theatre District where vaudeville and burlesque used to fill its resplendent theatre houses. Anon Salon will bring the history alive with today’s most cutting edge, avant garde performance and burlesque troupes performing in this breathtaking theater with a surrounding labyrinth of party rooms containing Anon’s live and DJ musical favorites.

The theatre built in 1931 in the French baroque style of Louis XIV, was a virtual Hollywood cathedral. Famous for its huge crystal fountain in the lobby, not an inch of the interior was left undecorated from the elegant stage curtains and ornate balcony to the intricately-carved ceiling of its lobby. When the Los Angeles Theatre was about to go under during the Depression, Charlie Chaplin paid an exorbitant amount of money to keep the posh 1,967-seat theater afloat, so that he could have the grand premiere of his masterpiece "City Lights" there. When downtown LA was abandoned for other new neighborhoods and nightlife, the Los Angeles Theatre closed and had been sitting idle, except for occasional film shoots.

Cirk-O-Six will then merge this experience with its audience base of costumed revelers to create a unique and participatory evening of entertainment.

Additionally, there is a full art gallery space attached to one of the downstairs ballrooms that will house a large art exhibit of cirque and burlesque themed works curated by Mike Russek, co-founder of Transport Art Gallery and founder of the Six Degrees Art Festival.

Lighting and an interactive environment will also be created by Los Angeles event and décor wizards, The Do Labs.

PERFORMERS

On the theatre stage:

The Buxoticas of Lucha Va Voom
Buxom * Exotica * Buxotica
Lucha Va Voom is the hot new ticket from LA, combining burlesque, comedy and costumed classic “super hero” Mexican wrestlers. Lucha Va Voom has toured the country recently selling out 2 nights at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles and invited to perform at the annual Comedy Festival in Las Vegas this year.

Lucent Dossier
Exo- glAmour Shenanigans
Full production over the edge performance art troupe specializing in vaudeville and circus shenanigans with visionary costuming and unique choreography and mesmerizing dance.

Cirque Berzerk
Cirkus for the MisLed
Cirque Berzerk has recently been producing the dinner/cirque experience combining their cirque performances with a 4 course dinner at Abundant Sugar in the Brewery Art Complex. They also produced several events and hosted their large circus event at Burning Man 2005 under a 90 ft circus tent. Performers from Cirque du Soleil join their ranks.

Skin
Aerial performance combining multi media with live/electronica.

March Forth
High-energy, eclectic and mobile unit of good times, taking a Fellini-esque mix of Mardi Gras mayhem, afro beat, Mexican hustle, sultry samba, big band accompanied by their surrealist troupe of stilt-dancers and costumed beauties, they are the new love-party paradigm.

HISTORY OF ANON SALON

ANON SALON, over the course of its 15-year existence, has helped redefine West Coast event production by producing hundreds of unique theme parties, theater festivals, art shows and even street fairs for Burning Man fans in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. The company was born out of San Francisco’s alternative art and performance scene of the 1980’s. From the beginning, they helped shape an ever-growing community of multi-media artists and event producers into a network of non-commercial, unadvertised one-off events and large public gatherings. Unlike conventional concert, club or theatrical events, these one-off gatherings were specialized one-of-a-kind theme party/events. Production laden and technologically cutting edge, they included not only music, but also performance artists, installation, lighting and video artists, theatrics and unique décor, that quickly began to attract an audience that brought their own ideas to the mix. The evolution of their party spectacles has always reflected the changing face of the creative community. As their website asserts, "ANON SALON teases technology, embraces the arts, and flirts with the unknown. … It celebrates all that's eclectic and electric in art, design, and media providing a place to grab new ideas before business as usual turns them into formulas.
Anon founders, JOEGH BULLOCK and MARCIA CROSBY have been central to San Francisco's alternative and underground art scene since the late 1970's. Besides ANON SALON, their endeavors include the GlasHaus parties of the mid-1980's, Icon Byte Bar and Grill (the first Internet bar and cafe in SF), the award-winning Climate Theater, the world famous Solo Mio performance festival. More recently, Joegh has co-created and co-produced San Francisco-based Burning Man Festival parties such as Flambé Lounge and the Decompression Heat the Street Faire.

In the early 1990's, they joined forces with then actor/director MARK PETRAKIS, known as “Spoonman” (from his popular alternative vaudeville revues called “COBRA LOUNGE”). An early web developer, already a part of the burgeoning technology scene, Petrakis was also responsible for Telecircus.com, a 1994 San Francisco arts community website that provided the first web presence for Burning Man, the Residents, Clubfoot Orchestra and many others.

Artist, event producer and social provocateur, MARK BAVA from the Monterey and San Francisco Bay Area entered the mix further bringing together audiences from communities from Humboldt to San Diego. Bava is also one of the founders of the LA Burning Man LaDecom Street Fair, Oracle Milleneum and the Blue Bongo nightclub in the Artist District of Downtown Los Angeles.

LA partner and co-producer, Stephen Samojeden is an east coast transplant who got his start in event productions in Colorado in the early Nineties. Working with friends he helped create Sol Productions, which grew to be one of the largest event production companies in the state. More recently he has helped create dozens of alternative art events in the Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles areas, including the yearly Los Angeles Burning Man Decompression Street Fairs.

Since its debut on NYE 2000, their SEA OF DREAMS event has been known as the must-see sleeper event for the in-the-know “cultural creatives”, attracting over 3,000 attendees each year to the sold out San Francisco events and last year’s LA event.

This New Year’s Eve, the ANON team will once again combine their talents and experience in the raising of Cirk-O-Six.

Hey Burnin Topangans,

I know you like fire....
How about water?

Well here's your invitation to get really wet and hot, for six days, at the Harbin Hot Springs New Years Dance Festival.

I have been attending and DJing the Festival for the past five years. Each year, I think that I will do something different for New Years (cuz I would love to spend NYE in L.A. with my peeps) and then I end up going to Harbin again and loving it.

For me, I have lots of friends in the Bay Area and at Harbin and it is a sweet reunion.

For you, if you'd like to get away from the city and you love hot springs, nature, dancing, music and kind beautiful people, how can you say "no?"

...ahhh...a flood of lovely memories just hit me. OK, I think I just talked myself into it. ;-))

And the music doesn't suck, especially if you like Funky Ethnic Breaks like David Starfire and I play. There will be some slammin DJs there, the sound system kicks, and the dance space is beautiful (sprung wood floors partly covered with carpet). The large dance space, that accomodates four hundred people, is made of wood and it's accoustically purrrrfect.

I hope you will give serious consideration to attending this delicious event. I usually see a dozen Southern Californians there, and I'd love to see you and hang out.

Thanks,
Patrick

We have all "burned" the man at Burningman but BUILDINGMAN goes beyond the element of "fire" and intitiates the three other elements as inspiration to create rather than destroy. Rising from the ashes of BurningMan, BuildingMan emerges! Each year in Black Rock City, we burn enough brand new wood to create a permanent city somewhere. We'd love to mobilize those resources into a new city of conscious creators.
So we ask the musical question, how many songs does
it take to pay for an MRI?

As has been previously announced on these lists, the
Tuz had a serious accident about two months ago, a
real big pain in the neck (herniated C4 disk/compression
fracture). He has also experienced arm pain and limited
motion. Yet, he can still play, although less intensively
than usual -- it will be a long climb back up to his usual
level of ecstatic dance but he will get there with
your love and support.

We've seen about 10 doctors and got 11 opinions, so
for now, a more holistic, non-invasive healing route
is underway. The injury has been -very- expensive in
direct and indirect ways. A number of friends and
supporters have already made generous contributions to
the Fantuzzi Healing fund. Thank you all very much.
Please see one supporter's matching donation challenge
Spundae is quite possibly the most beautiful and technologically advanced dance clubs in the world. I kid you not.
Their sound systems are superb. There is a MASSIVE outdoor patio for your hanging/chilling needs. 3 areas of dancing bliss.
State of the art visuals and of course you!

Email POCKETPEOPLE@YAHOO.COM or any of your favorite DJs performing that night and give us your name plus the name of whoever might join you for the evening and your are in for free. When you get there (before 1am) go to the list canopy and find Desiree, she'll give you your passes, then go through the VIP line and get right in. Bring your ID cause it's 21 and over.

Spundae is located at 6655 Santa Monica Blvd (@ Las Palmas, just east of Highland) There are 2 clubs on the property so if you're not sure, just ask someone for Spundae. Check out www.spundae.com.

Sorry it took me so long to let you know what's going on...but better late than never...right?

So, Avalon was a blast! Crowded but incredible energy thanks to all of you. I have heard from the management as well as regulars at that club and they all agree that we brought a vibe to that place that they have never seen there. Big ups to our Pocket DJs Sarah Marie, Shylock & Drifter, Sammy Bliss and Jokton. What say you all that next time we have Wolfie and Porter in there, maybe myself as well. Would that be okay? I'll ask them what they think about that. Also, thank you Rayna, Keaton, Kamala and Hannah for making us look even better.

So... This Weekend is GreenDependance Day. Finally an outdoor event close enough to home to make it an easy night of camping fun and frolicking and then we can watch folks shoot explosive stuff into the air all pretty like from wherever you want to. Pocket DJs Jokton, Drifter & Shylock, Sammy Bliss and Myself will be spinning for you not to mention all our best and most beloved talent. Thanks to Wolfie, GreenSector and Brane Village for hooking it up! Check out the flyer below. But get there early cause Sammy is playing an opening set and stay late cause I am playing a closing set that you won't want to miss. Specially if you've been up the whole evening.

With the recent cancellation of the Alchemy Festival we've decided that we just can't go a whole weekend without seeing all your beautiful faces!! So we're throwing a FREE party this Friday night at the Blue Bongo downtown. Oh yeah baby, it's so ON!!

Last weekend we rocked the high desert as Ninja Skillz music teamed up with POCKET to bring the Dark Skies festival the first ever POCKET NINJA STAGE! We made the playa dust shiver and the mountains shake, and now we're bringing it all back to our homeland . . . the city of Angels!

From 9-4am this Friday (5/27) you can shake your asses to the beats of LA's badest underground DJ's: (That's right, I said BADEST!)

Wolfie (www.djwolfie.com)
Porter Tinsley (Ninja Skillz, OrangeKids)
Saynt (Ninja Skillz)
Sammy Bliss (Ninja Skillz, POCKET)
Jesse Wright (POCKET)

And a special birthday set by Fade Records DJ SHYLOCK!!
(Shylock's turning 30 this weekend, so make sure you point and laugh and ask him where his cane is!)

OH, and . . . The Blue Bongo only holds 200 people so GET THERE EARLY!!!

Here's the dilleo, yo . . .

LOS ANGELES UNDERGROUND, GET READY TO GET GLAM.

We arranged a FREE PARTY for you THIS FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE BLUE BONGO. Free. Like Lionel Richie said, "All night long baby, all night long."

Here's the skinny, and we'd BETTER see you there because PORTER is dropping ALL NEW ORIGINAL TRACKS and playing in Los Angeles for the first time since "I Feel Pretty!"

WOLFIE, PORTER, SAMMY BLISS, JESSE WRIGHT AND SAYNT BRING YOU.....

POPSTARS AND ROCKSTARS!!!!
This Friday night ALL NIGHT at the Blue Bongo
Located @ Little Pedro's Downtown (http://www.bluebongobar.com/).
Los Angeles

NO COVER!!
9pm to 4am

Show up as GLAM AS YOU CAN, and GET RIGHT with your favorite DJs in Los Angeles, together again, under one roof and on the same decks. That means I want to see chicks in baby-t's, dudes with gel in their hair and EVERYONE wearing their sunglasses at night. I'm talking LEATHER PANTS AND HIGH HEELS BABY!!!!

Down and Drrty (like Christina said) ALL NIGHT LONG (just like Lionel) ALL FOR LOVE (because O-town does it right) with the FUNKIEST, NASTIEST UNDERGROUND HOUSE and BREAKS served up FREE.

Find Porter in her NKOTB jacket and she'll give ya a kiss for coming out to see us. We are so psyched to be playing together in Los Angeles for you and look forward to a long relaxing weekend...we all need some time off, but we all agreed we'd feel bad not serving up some nice hot tasty beats for you to kick off the weekend right.

Anyway...

So, I checked. Looks like it's going to be high 90s during the day in Primm, but we live for the night anyway...right? Lookin at low 70s. How sweet is that? Perfect for dancing naked under the skies.

So, the POCKET soundsystem has been checked, re-checked and is ready for blast off. Our line-up looks to be truely amazing and Ninja Skillz has some incredible visual stimuli ready. Looks like the POCKET Ninja dance area is going to ROCK!

Can't wait to see you all there!

Then the following weekend is Alchemy. Christ, who can keep up with this? Huh? Who? We can...that's who. So get yourself ready cause if anything, we're just hitting our stride. Ya got me?

Xara Dulzura is a regional burning-type event at a scenic monastery about 40 miles east of San Diego. I think it takes place April. 22 - 24 (Fri-Sun). This will be the third year for this event. I've gone both prior years and had an awesome time, so I will definitely be going again this year.

You can see more about it at the website: http://members.cox.net/xara-project/

If other Topanga people want to go, maybe we can pool resources for the following type stuff:

1) Carpooling / ridesharing for those who need it (or just to save gas $$ and parking fees).
2) Caravaning down
3) Setting up a group camping area, so those who go earlier can save camping space for late-comers.
4) Creating some sort of artistic or fun project or theme or intereactive experience or just cool decorations for a camp site that will make people passing by smile.
5) Food/drink/cooking area sharing, so that everyone does not have to bring their own pots, pans, stoves, and all that stuff, we can divide what is needed for a good kitchen set up and each bring some of it.

Just a thought if there is enough interest. Also, I'm curious if any of you have been to past XD's. Could be we've already met (I know the first XD was pretty small).

Just wanted to let everyone know I'll be part of this fun event at Froggy's in Topanga. I'll be doing my aerial silks act in the most beautiful oak tree in the parking lot at 6 p.m. sharp (gotta do it while it's still light out). It's only a 7 min. act, so if you're late you'll miss it. I'm excited cause it's been along time since I performed in Topanga and this tree was actually the location of my very first aerial performance. Eliza, Sass, and Stephanie are all amazing multi-talented performers and I can't wait to see what they do. I hope everyone will come on out cause it'd be a great time for us all to hang out. It'll also be a good show to bring kids to.
Also, I'm needing to find someone with a 30 ft. ladder or rock climbing gear to get me up in the tree to rig sat. afternoon. Also a good boombox, or theatre lights to light up the tree would be awesome. See ya there, Laura

I started going through inviting some of you to join my friends network, figuring it was a good way to connect with some locals for friendship and crreative encouragement and whatever. But after doing that a few times, I realized, "Hey, I can just post on the Burn-Topanga-Burn main page!" Which is what I am doing now.

I'm here to write (experimental fiction) and hike and generally grow as a person. My interests range from taiosm to yoga to hooping to Mutaytor to reading to glass art to Vegan cooking, and other stuff.

If anyone wants to say hi, or get together for a drink or tea or coffee or whatever, that'd be cool. Or maybe carpool to local events like a Mutaytor show or moon tribe party. Or get together for hooping practice. Whatever.

I saw there have not been any recent posts on here in a while, so if this does not get a response, I may go back to contacting you one by one.
